Have You Found Your Missing Rib

A very young lady who was in love asked her fiancé:

Girl: Tell me. Who, in this world do you love most?
Boy: You’re the one I love, of course!
Girl: Deep down In your heart, what do you think I am to you?
Boy: The boy thought deeply for almost a minute and looked straight into the girl’s eyes and said, “You are my missing rib. It was recorded that God saw that Adam was alone, during one of his sleeps, God took one of Adam’s rib and from it, created Eve and ever since, every man has been searching for his missing rib, it’s only when you find the woman of your life, you’ll no longer feel the lingering ache in your heart and I’m grateful to God because I’ve found you.”

A few months later, they got wedded. After their wedding, the couple had a sweet and happy married life for a while. But unfortunately, on the long run, the youthful couple began to drift apart due to the busy schedules of life and the never-ending worries of daily problems, their life became mundane. As all these challenges posed by the harsh realities of life began to fade away their dreams and love for each other. Soon, the couple began to have more and more quarrels and each quarrel became more and more heated. One day, after one of their quarrels, the girl ran out of the house. At the other side of the road, she shouted, “You don’t love me!” The boy grew very angry and hated her childish behavior and out of annoyance, replied, “Maybe, it was even a mistake for us to have been together! You were never my missing rib!” Suddenly, she became quiet and stood there for a while. He regretted what he said greatly but for the nature of words, which when spoken are like thrown away water, you can never take it back. With tears, she went inside to pack her belongings and was determined to break-up. But before she left the house, she said, “If I’m really not your missing rib, please let me go.” She continued, “It is less painful this way. Let’s go on our separate ways and search for our own rightful partners.”

Six years passed

He never remarried but he had tried to find out about her life indirectly. She had left the country and back. She had married a foreigner and divorced. He felt bad that she never waited for him. In the dark and lonely night, he lit up his cigarette and felt the lingering ache in his heart. He couldn’t bring himself to admit that he was missing her. One day, they finally met. At the airport, a place where there were many reunions and good byes. He was going away on a business trip. She was standing there alone, with just a security door separating them. She smiled gently at him.

Boy: How are you doing?
Girl: Not bad, I’m fine. How about you? Have you found your missing rib?
Boy: Not yet.
Girl: I’ll be flying to New York city in the next flight.
Boy: I’ll be back in 2 weeks time. Call me when you’re back. You know my phone number. Nothing has changed, it’s still the same.

With a smile, she nodded, turned around and waved him good bye.

About a week later, he heard of her death. She was killed in New York city, in an event that shocked the world. At midnight, once again, he lit his cigarette. And like before, he felt the lingering ache in his heart. He finally knew and admitted…. She was the missing rib that he had carelessly broken.

Words can help or heal. Your call. There are consequences to everything we do, and SAY.

Bonus Info: During the middle ages, it was widely believed that men had one less rib than woman. This is because of the story in the Bible that Eve had been created out of Adam’s rib. That being true, it was not carried beyond Adam’s descendants. Only happened to Adam. The rest of the male gender did not inherit that trait. If you look at x-ray images, they show the same number of ribs in males and females. However, there is one rib that will grow back if taken out.

Question: Can a man live without one rib? Yes. But interestingly, the lower rib is the only bone in the human body that can regenerate to its original shape perfectly (coincidence ?). So, did Adam live the rest of his life short a rib? The Bible is not specific, either Adam lived the rest of his life with one less rib or God healed him, causing the rib to grow back as it does in us as to this day. It probably did not affect his health since Adam lived to the ripe old age of 930 (Genesis 5:5).

So why do so many people (including me at one time) believe that as in Adam, all men have one less rib that a woman? It “seems” most of this information came from an anecdote written by Carl Wieland, a creationist. And while his intentions were just, he missed it on the truth behind the scenes, x-ray scenes that is. Men and Women have the exact same number or ribs twelve. Both men and women have 24 ribs, twelve on each side.

What’s interesting is that a survey was taken from around 10,000 Americans in 2004 that showed that nearly 50 percent of Americans surveyed actually think that men have one less rib than women do. LOL
