A Sermon About Lying

A minister told his congregation, “Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17.”

The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up. The minister smiled and said, “Mark has only sixteen chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying.”

God says it this way:

1 Timothy 4:1-5 “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:  For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”

3 Jn 1:4 “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”

1 Jn 2:21 “I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. ”

1 Jn 1:8 ‘If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”

1 Jn 1:6 “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:…”

Jas 3:14 “But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.”

2 Tim 4:4 “And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

2 Tim 3:7 “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

1 Tim 6:5″ Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.”

Eph 4:25 “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.”

Prov 12:22 “Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.”

Prov 12:19 “The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.”
