Scorpion and Turtle Story

scorpion_turtle

A Scorpion, being a very poor swimmer, asked a Turtle to carry Him on his back across a river.

“Are you crazy?” exclaimed the Turtle.

“You’ll sting me while I’m swimming and I’ll drown.”

“My dear Turtle,” laughed the Scorpion, “if I were to sting you, you would drown and I would go down with you. Now where is the logic in that?”

“You’re right!” cried the Turtle. “Hop on!”

The Scorpion climbed aboard and halfway across the river gave the Turtle a mighty sting. As they both sank to the bottom, the Turtle resignedly said:

“Do you mind if I ask you something? You said there’d be no logic in your stinging me. Then why did you do it?”

“It has nothing to do with logic,” the drowning Scorpion sadly replied. “It’s just my character.”

Moral of the Story: Be careful of whom you associate with.

As simple as this story is, it teaches a fundamental lesson about the dangers of befriending the wrong people. (Yes! there are wrong people in this world). It’s our job to point them amidst the wicked in the world, to a safe haven where righteousness is favored over liberal evil. We should not think of freedom as “if it feels good do it” but an opportunity to do what’s right AT ANY COST.

Romans 3:10-18 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

1 Cor 5:13 “But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.”

Eph 5:11 “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”

2 Cor 6:17 “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.”

Acts 13:10 “And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?”

1 Tim 4:1 “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;…”

Jude 1:4 “For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Mt 13:38 “The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;…”

1 Jn 3:10 “In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.”

Jn 8:44 “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

Rom 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
