The Need To Ask

One day a small boy was trying to lift a heavy stone, but he couldn’t budge it. His father, passing by, stopped to watch his son’s efforts. Finally he said to his son: “Are you using all your strength?”

Exasperated, the boy cried, “Yes, I am.”

“No, you’re not,” said the father calmly. “You haven’t asked me to help you.”

You know, many times we try to do things on our own, apart from God, apart from others around us. We were not created to go at things alone. There is no shame asking for help. And in many instances we need to lean on something bigger than we are. God is just a prayer away; and there will always be a friend nearby to lend a helping hand- let down your pride and reach for it.
