Thank God For Hurricanes

Hurricanes are awful, but at least we have some warning they are coming unlike quick-forming tornadoes or sudden earthquakes. We knew about Harvey for days before it landed in coastal Texas. Hurricane Irma was bearing down on Florida but would not make landfall until the nearing weekend.

See, a hurricane gives you about a week to prepare. You can shop for extra food, board up the windows, and even get out of Dodge.

Even then some people weren’t prepared, they decided to wait until the last minute. For many in Texas and Florida, a “SHTF” situation occurred for them. It’s just a matter of time before one of those moments get near you.

As a last minute prep-work; thousands of people showed up to their grocery store and found it looking like this:

That’s an actual photo from my cousin’s Facebook page she posted right before Hurricane Harvey landed at the coast of Texas. You think she learned a lesson in preparedness?

Had she asked me beforehand I would have said that, at the very least, she should have:

  • Backup power/Heat
  • Extra water
  • Extra medications and essentials
  • Bug out bag
  • A place and means to escape to if you need to get the heck out

Luckily there is good news: You DO have time to prepare for anything – as long as you start now.

Moral Courage: It’s Value

Courage is a highly admired virtue. Most often we associate the word with physical prowess or bravery. But there’s another form of valor that’s much more important because it comes up more often. It’s called moral courage – the willingness to face not physical danger but emotional pain, disapproval, financial insecurity, or uncertainty rather than compromise an ethical principle.

Moral courage is essential not only for a virtuous life, but a happy one. Without courage, we have no control over our lives. Our fears corrode our spirit and confine us like a barbed wire fence. That’s why they say a coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man but one.

Integrity is essential to self-esteem and the admiration of others. It requires us to put our comforts, possessions, friendships, and even jobs at risk in the defense of deeply held principles.

It takes moral fortitude to be honest at the risk of ridicule, rejection, or retaliation or when doing so may jeopardize our income or career. It takes boldness to be accountable and own up to mistakes when doing so may get us in trouble. It takes backbone to stand tough with our kids when doing so may cost us their affection.

Mark Twain said, ‘Courage is not the absence of fear but the resistance of fear, the mastery of fear.’ To paraphrase President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the enemy is not what we fear; it is fear itself. If our insecurities and anxieties cause us to lose confidence in the power of virtue, we will lose something very precious.

People with moral courage rarely get medals, but it is the best marker of true character and a virtue others can be proud of.

Get The Fire Going

Kaeser Wilderness Supply (LINK)

*survival technique

Using a lens to start a fire is an easy matchless method. Any boy who has melted green plastic army men with a magnifying glass will know how to do this (possibly another generation). If you have by chance never melted green plastic army men, here’s how to do it.

To create a fire, all you need is some sort of lens to focus sunlight on a specific spot.

A magnifying glass, eyeglasses, or binocular lenses all work. If you add some water to the lens, you can intensify the beam. Angle the lens towards the sun to focus the beam into as small an area as possible. Put your tinder nest under this spot and you’ll soon have yourself a fire.

The only drawback to the lens based method is that it only works when you have sun. If it’s nighttime or overcast, you won’t have any luck.

In addition to the typical lens method, there are three odd, but effective, lens-based methods to start a fire as well which we’ll discuss here.

By filling a balloon or condom with water, you can transform these ordinary objects into fire creating lenses.

Fill the condom or balloon with water and tie off the end. You’ll want to make it as spherical as possible. Don’t make the inflated balloon or condom too big or it will distort the sunlight’s focal point. Squeeze the balloon to find a shape that gives you a sharp circle of light. Try squeezing the condom in the middle to form two smaller lenses.

Condoms and balloons both have a shorter focal length than an ordinary lens. Hold them 1 to 2 inches from your tinder.

Fire from ice isn’t just some dumb cliché used for high school prom themes. You can make fire from a piece of ice. All you need to do is form the ice into a lens shape and then use it as you would when starting a fire with any other lens. This method can be particularly handy for wintertime camping.

Get clear water. For this to work, the ice must be clear. If it’s cloudy or has other impurities, it’s not going to work. The best way to get a clear ice block is to fill up a bowl, cup, or a container made of foil with clear lake or pond water or melted snow. Let it freeze until it forms ice. Your block should be about 2 inches thick for this to work.

Form your lens. Use your knife to shape the ice into a lens. Remember a lens shape is thicker in the middle and narrower near the edges.

Polish your lens. After you get the rough shape of a lens, finish the shaping of it by polishing it with your hands. The heat from your hands will melt the ice enough so you get a nice smooth surface.

Start a fire. Angle your ice lens towards the sun just as you would any other lens.

Focus the light on your tinder nest and watch as you make a once stupid cliché come to life.

Remember, we’re all in this together,

Dear Fellow Americans

When you hear and see the reports coming from Venezuela, it’s absolutely heartbreaking.

What was once a prosperous, thriving and secure nation more than a decade ago, has now turned into a socialist, 3rd-world nightmare. All because of big-government, left-wing policies that included higher social spending, taxes, and money printing.

This has led to professionals such as doctors leaving the country in droves… widespread starvation, violence and civil unrest…. as well as shortages of food and necessities, such as food and toilet paper.

Just like almost every other socialist government, it promised a workers’ paradise on earth… but instead, delivered the earthly version of hell.

Here in the US, we’re seeing eerily similar events to Venezuela: Protests and rallies where left-wing groups such as Antifa attack peaceful, conservative folks who exercise their First Amendment right to free speech.

Inflation is rampant in real estate, higher education and health care… putting a big financial squeeze on the American middle class.

The obama administration nearly doubled our national debt, now set to break $20 trillion this year, and over $100 trillion in unfunded liabilities. Simple math tells you there’s no way these debts will be paid off.

History shows us – just like it is in Venezuela – that governments try and debase the currency to pay off the debt with cheaper dollars. But it destroys wealth and purchasing power of average citizens, and leaves a trail of financial tears in its wake.

Unfortunately, the US is no different, although President Trump seems to be trying to reverse the damage that obama did from eight years in office. But given the size of these debts, it may already be too late despite his best efforts.

History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes. Sadly, the United States is playing a similar tune to other nations throughout history. The smartest thing to do is hope for the best, and prepare for the worst.

Will this happen one day soon in the USA??

Watch video below and you decide…could it happen similar?

Hooks and Hoops

Hooks and Hoops

That’s all, Velcro is.

Now if those little hooks were straightened out, nothing would stick to the hoops. The picture of our manipulated idea of self is these bent attitudes and deformed ideas of reality. You can get “strung along” by just about anything. And when it sticks, your hooks feel useful and you start accumulating stuff. Stuff you don’t need in your life. Acts 8:9 “But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:…”

You grow and start to appear as though you are what is sticking to you. Eph 4:14 “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;…”

Everyone else is mimicking the same thing, so you feel justified and even comforted. In fact you look for stuff to stick to you. 2 Tim 4:3 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;…’

This is happening on several levels. You sit and watch TV and stringy Velcro balls are flying at you in all dimensions and you can’t even see most of them. You just come away with more crap clinging to your mind, heart and soul and hardly notice. 2 Pet 2:13 “And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;…”

The only reason this stuff sticks is because you’re “hooked”. 2 Tim 3:13 “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” Rev 20:10 “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”

Somehow, somewhere down the road of life, the world attempts to program you with hooks and hoops that attach to stuff. Keep your focus and leave the world to itself. We have nothing to contribute to it except that which is good and right; everything that is in a born again child of God. Col 1:27 “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:…”

Velcro is not permanent, you can detach yourself from the stuff the world throws at you. Don’t be conformed to the sway of things, events….don’t be moved to go another direction; but prove what is God’s will. 1 Pet 1:23 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”

God’s Word says: Rom 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
